After settling into our cozy AirBnB in Karlík, the trip took on a whole new energy. The small village had a peaceful charm, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Prague, yet close enough to keep us connected to the city. Every morning, the crisp air and quiet surroundings felt like the perfect balance to the lively days we spent exploring.
Reuniting with my sister in Prague was a highlight. We hit the ground running, with shopping high on the agenda. The streets of Prague are a shopper’s dream, blending modern boutiques with quaint, traditional stores. We strolled down Wenceslas Square, popping into local shops, grabbing coffee, and catching up on life. The colorful trams clattered by, adding a nostalgic hum to the busy street. It felt surreal to be here together, in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, doing something as simple as shopping.
Of course, no visit to Prague is complete without seeing the city’s iconic landmarks. The Old Town Square welcomed us with its vibrant medieval charm, the Astronomical Clock still an awe-inspiring sight after all these years. We wandered across the Charles Bridge, pausing to take photos of the breathtaking views of the Vltava River and the castle looming in the distance. Prague Castle itself was a journey through history—a fortress that has stood the test of time, watching over the city since the 9th century.
But one of the standout days was our trip to Karlštejn Castle. Nestled in the forests, Karlštejn felt like a hidden gem rising out of the hills. The hike up was steep, but the views were more than worth it. The castle’s Gothic towers and walls looked like something straight out of a fairy tale. Inside, we walked through centuries of history, from royal chambers to stunning chapels, imagining what life might have been like within those stone walls.
And then, Cesky Krumlov—oh, what a place! A few hours’ drive from Prague, it was like stepping into another world. The town’s winding streets, lined with medieval buildings, led us to the magnificent castle perched on the hillside. Cesky Krumlov has a storybook feel, with its Renaissance and Baroque architecture, the colorful facades reflecting in the river below. We spent hours getting lost in the town’s maze of cobbled streets, discovering hidden corners, and soaking in the views from the castle grounds.
Throughout it all, the time spent with my sister made the journey even more special. Whether we were standing in awe at Prague’s historic sights or sharing laughter over a meal in a small Czech café, it was a trip that deepened our bond and filled our hearts with unforgettable memories.
As I left Prague behind and began the drive back to Groningen, I couldn’t help but reflect on the incredible journey this road trip had been. Erpel, Bonn, Pleinfeld, Nuremberg, Vienna, Karlïk, Prague. As I crossed the German border and the landscapes slowly began to feel familiar again, the past three weeks felt like a whirlwind of adventure, culture, and history. Pulling into Groningen, I was grateful to be home but also filled with a sense of accomplishment and the lingering excitement of all the places I’d seen. This road trip wasn’t just about the destinations—it was about the journey itself and the memories created along the way.
