After the tranquil beauty of Erpel and the vibrant energy of Bonn, my road trip took me further south to Pleinfeld and Nuremberg. Both places presented me with completely different experiences—Pleinfeld with its natural landscapes and Nuremberg with its rich history and thriving art scene. This leg of the trip brought a wonderful blend of nature and culture, offering something new at every stop.
Pleinfeld: Nature’s Playground
Pleinfeld wasn’t originally a key stop on my journey, but I’m so glad I included it. It’s a hidden gem in Bavaria, surrounded by nature and perfect for a break from the hustle of city life. The Großer Brombachsee, a large lake just outside of town, was the highlight of my time here. I took my e-bike around the lake, riding through forests and along the water’s edge, enjoying the fresh air and stunning views.
The ride was incredibly peaceful, and I found myself stopping more often than expected to capture the beauty of the landscape—endless green hills, the mirror-like surface of the lake, and the tranquility that wrapped around me. Pleinfeld may be a quiet spot, but it was exactly the kind of calm I needed before heading into a bustling city again.
Nuremberg: A City Steeped in History
From Pleinfeld, I drove to Nuremberg, a city that felt like stepping into another time. The medieval architecture and historical significance of Nuremberg give it a special atmosphere. The Old Town is full of character, with its iconic half-timbered houses and the majestic Nuremberg Castle towering over the city. Walking through the streets, you can feel the weight of history, and I couldn’t resist photographing every little detail of the medieval charm.
Nuremberg is also a city of contrasts—while its medieval past is ever-present, it’s also home to contemporary culture and art. One of the highlights of my visit here was spending time at the New Museum. The museum is a strikingly modern building, standing in contrast to the historical surroundings, and inside, it’s a haven for contemporary art and design. I was lucky enough to catch an exhibition of Gerhard Richter. Richter’s work is always thought-provoking, and this exhibition was no exception. His use of color, abstraction, and sometimes subtle commentary on society left me captivated. I spent hours wandering through the gallery, immersed in the vivid colors and intricate textures of his paintings. There’s something about Richter’s ability to blend reality and abstraction that makes you look at the world differently. I left the museum feeling creatively energized, and of course, I snapped a few shots of the stunning museum architecture and some of the pieces that really spoke to me.
Next Stop: Vienna
With Nuremberg in the rearview mirror, I’m heading toward Vienna, ready to dive into Austria’s rich cultural scene. Each stop on this road trip brings something new—whether it’s the peaceful nature of Pleinfeld, the historic weight of Nuremberg, or the creative burst I felt at the New Museum. I can’t wait to see what Vienna holds in store for me.
